What are you thinking about right now?
I'm trying to get a friend of mine to come out and sing a couple of songs with my band. We've started using a lot of material I had planned for a side project I didn't intend to do vocals for, so it might turn into a kind of shadow audition for a new member if everyone gets along and the creative chemistry is there.
Or at the very least, it would be nice to have a guest vocalist to call up for a song or two at one of our shows.
Sorry to hear about the car crash, Facesforce. I'm not sure it is a good idea to hide things from your insurance company, but whatever works best for you!

Ignoring Ignorance: Um, what.
I haven't had an occasion to try the ignore feature out yet, and sort of seriously doubt I'll ever get one.
I think, maybe, as a best case scenario, it could be a positive thing. People might be less inclined to "act the fool" if they know they can be completely written off for it. A little more posting responsibility makes for a cleaner forum for all.
As a worst case scenario, I can see it being abused as the ultimate ostrich method for "winning" an argument. You disagree, you criticize, you prompt thought provoking discussions? IGNORE.
Also, is there any notification to the ignored, or do they just blissfully continue to shout into a vacuum?

Games that nobody remember?
I think everyone remembers Day of the Tentacle!
How about McMurphy's Mansion? It was an old text based game I found on a couple of computers at my high school. You had to go around solving riddles and problems to discover hidden gold bars.
I remember one kid got frustrated and just tried typing "Get Gold Bar" in every room of the mansion.

Research, Mofo, Do You Do It?
I always try to couch subjects I'm not that knowledgeable about in things that I know very well. I have found, several times, that too much research tends to make things very dry.
There is almost a compulsion to try and wedge as much "cool facts" and "interesting data" into the end work as possible, which can really detract from the story and overall feel of a piece.

A Civil Garden Party ~ 2k3 Discussion
I've used Multimedia Fusion 2, Construct, Game Maker, and Lite-C, and I always come back to 2k3. It is the best choice for most of the games I want to make.
Then there is the whole honer vs forger approach (from The Diamond Age).

author= Neal Stephenson
Hackworth was a forger, Dr. X was a honer. The distinction was at least as old as the digital computer. Forgers created a new technology and then forged onto the next project, having explored only the outlines of its potential. Honers got less respect because they appeared to sit still technologically, playing around with systems that were no longer start, hacking them for all their worth, getting them to do things the forgers never envisioned.
As statistical as molasses in January
My achievements for the Secret Santa review event came in overnight, so I guess I'll be a little higher up the list next month, unless everyone else slingshots past me =)
"Delay" before showing spell animations
My un-patched (aside from the translation) default version of 2k3 doesn't have mp3 support, shift button processing, and is capped at 40 pictures.
One thing you could do is download a game that uses an mp3 soundtrack and copy that exe over, as long as it wasn't altered/hacked by the creator.
If you change your version of rm2k3 while working on an existing project, you need to make a new project and copy the exe over from that to your old project folder. I learned this the hard way. I was able to use the shift key in input processing events, but it didn't actually work in the game until I switched .exe's

Boss Battles
What I'm doing for one of my projects goes something like this:
First, I record the boss's stats into a few variables. If you're using a scan power, you probably already have one of these laying around. I bounce out of the battle every turn to reference a master common event. In the event I check for things like hero is in Status X, hero has Item X equipped, Hero's Stat is >= X.
Then, I use that info to toggle a group of switches. These switches also happen to be triggers for the Boss's skills/behaviors. Some of these might have to be specially evented (if you want a specific attack to strike a specific party member reliably). That way the boss can respond to the player, strip them of their buffs after a couple of rounds, paralyze the one holding the +5 Weapon of Boss Kill, and even apply status ailments to party members whose stats are too high for comfort.
Since you're recording boss stats into variables, you can also check to see what status ailments they are suffering from (if they effect stats). This way you can have the boss counter the debuffs every now and then, forcing the team to have to adapt on the fly instead of just "spam status effects, spam heavy hits, heal every turn, victory!"
You can also have multiple copies of the same boss, but with different resistances and statistics. You can switch it based on hp/mp levels, or through switches that you control with your master common event.
Just hammering on the same attack every turn is no fun. If you have the boss's weaknesses and strengths changing dynamically (when applicable via story/boss type/whatever), it should make for a more fun and engaging battle!

Game slowdown [2K3]
Even if you only have a couple of parallel processes, you might try either condensing them, or adding different numbers of 'wait 0.0' to them so that they don't hit all at the same time and logjam.
In the past, when I've encountered lag on larger maps, I've tried to end run around it by turning off events that are far enough from the player to not appear on screen.
I ran into a dramatic bit of lag in one of my projects and discovered it was because I made a mistake and allowed an event to call ITSELF.
For debug purposes, I suggest you make a copy of the maps in question and start removing elements, one at a time, until you find the one responsible for your lag.
